What is ion exchange reaction?
Ion exchange resins are cross-linked polymer compounds containing ionizable groups and insoluble in any solvent. Their separation and purification of substances are mainly achieved through ion exchange reaction. Ion exchange reaction usually refers to the ion exchange reaction between ion exchange resin and ions in solution. With different physical and chemical structures or different ionic systems in solution, ion exchange resins can undergo neutral salt decomposition reaction, double decomposition reaction, acid base neutralization reaction and salt formation reaction.
The ion exchange reaction is generally reversible, and the reaction direction is affected by the properties of resin exchange groups, the properties and concentrations of ions in solution, pH value of solution, temperature and other factors. This reversible property enables the exchange saturated resin to be regenerated and reused.
